Are you a culinary school?

We are neither a culinary school nor an institute. We are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that showcases New York's dynamic agriculture, wine, craft beer, and food industries. The Center's state-of-the-art facility overlooking Canandaigua Lake features a Hands-On Kitchen, Demonstration Theater, Tasting Room, Private Dining Room, Culinary Boutique, and a locally-sourced restaurant, the Upstairs Bistro.

What can I do at the Center?

We feature our local-fare restaurant, the Upstairs Bistro, a Tasting Room featuring flights of New York State wines, beers and spirits, and a Culinary Boutique filled with gourmet food products and culinary treasures. In addition, we offer cooking classes and beer and wine education classes open to the public. Registration for the classes in advance is encouraged, as they typically sell out quickly.

We also have space available to rent for private events and parties.

How do I register for a class?

You can register for a class online, by calling 585.394.7070, or by visiting the Center. To register online, visit the 'Classes and Happenings' tab, and select the class you would like to attend. When you are ready to check out, proceed to the shopping cart and complete the registration and payment process as directed. You will receive an email confirmation once you are successfully registered.

Will I receive tickets to the class?

No tickets will be issued for the class. You will simply use your name to check in at the Front Desk upon arrival.

When should I arrive for my class?

Please plan on arriving 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time to allow proper time to check in.

What should I wear to a class?

We ask that you wear comfortable, casual clothing and shoes. An apron will be provided for use during the class.

How long are classes?

Culinary classes are generally 2-2.5 hours. Beverage classes typically run 1-2 hours.

What is the class format?

There are two different formats:

Hands-On Kitchen: These are full participation classes. Guests work in groups to prepare different portions of the class menu. At the end of the class, all participants share the meal, which is often paired with New York State wine or beer. Each participant goes home with the recipes taught in the class.

Demonstration Theater: These classes are designed in more of a lecture style, but they also involve class participation. Specific formats vary, but classes typically include a chef demonstration and/or a food & beverage pairing.

Should I still sign up for a class if there is a waitlist?

It is always a good idea to add your name to the waitlist for a class that is of interest to you. You do not need to submit payment information until a spot becomes available. If an opening becomes available, you will be notified by phone or email.

What is your class cancellation policy?

You may cancel your registration for a class up to 72 hours prior to the class start time to receive a full refund or transfer into another class. To cancel, please call the Center at 585-394-7070. NO refunds or exchanges will be given after the 72 hour window has passed. You may, however, transfer your registration to another individual by calling the Center to let us know who we can expect in your place. NYWCC reserves the right to cancel any class. We will notify all registrants by phone and email.

Can I purchase alcoholic beverages to bring into the class?

Yes, select wines and beers may be purchased in our Tasting Room. You can also purchase beverages from the full service bar in the Upstairs Bistro.

How do tastings work?

The prices range from $6-$10 per flight.

What do you carry in the Tasting Room?
